Leh, February 08: Principal Secretary, Planning Development and Monitoring Department chaired a meeting in his office chamber to review the progress of languishing projects.

In the meeting, Chief Planning Officer, Leh, Tsewang Gyalson gave a detailed presentation to the Principal Secretary on various projects completed in the Leh district. The projects that were completed include construction of cold storage with a capacity of 1000 metric tons at Agling; construction of link road at Imam Bargah, Phyang; construction of a 600 meter long, link road from Irath bridge to Matkor House; two additional classrooms, and a library at the higher secondary school, Saspol; Up-gradation of a link road from higher secondary school to Public Health Centre, Skurbuchan; the extension of Domkhar Phoo Road, construction of additional five classrooms at high school, Lamayuru; construction of link road to Bogdang and construction of a motorable bridge over the Indus river at Kairy.

Further, in the Public Health Engineering (PHE) sector, Principal Secretary was apprised about the projects that stood complete, including the extension of Upshi canal; construction of Abi canal, construction of irrigation canals at Agyamthang, Agyam; Demjok; Skurbuchan (Khaltsi block); Achinathang Gongma (Khaltsi block); construction of irrigation canal at Achinathang Yokma (Khaltsi block), Flood protection work at Skurbuchan Nallah, Skurbuchan and Flood protection work at Hanu-Pata.

The Chief Planning Officer, Kargil also gave a detailed presentation to the Principal Secretary on various projects in the Irrigation and flood control sector. The Principal Secretary said in pumping-based water systems be it for drinking water purposes or irrigation purposes it was mandatory to have a stand-by arrangement. In that regard, he instructed CPO Kargil, that stand-by pumping-based machinery should always be made part of the Detailed Project Report.
Taking stock of the various schemes and projects, Principal Secretary directed the Planning department to always do an outcome-based analysis of the schemes. He urged the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, and Chief Planning officers Leh and Kargil to concentrate on the completion of infrastructural projects such as bridges and irrigation canals which are important for the socio-economic development of the people. He said, when there are no bridges there will be no vehicular movement. Principal Secretary also said that the construction of irrigation canals will result in greater production of vegetables, thus making people self-sufficient and uplifting their socio-economic status.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner/ CEO LAHDC Leh, Shrikant Suse; Deputy Director, Mohammed Hussain; Chief Planning Officer, Leh, Tsewang Gyalson and Chief Planning Officer, Kargil, Abdul Hali.
