As per police sources, a complaint was lodged at Police Station Bahu Fort by a lady namely Nazia Choudhary, wife of Rafiq Ahmed of Bathindi stating that her husband has been arrested in NDPS Act case registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and two persons came to her house claiming themselves as policemen posted at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and demanded Rs 5 lakh for releasing her husband.

On this, complainant party immediately delivered one swift car and cash Rs 50,000 for the same.

Consequently on August 14, 2002, both the persons claiming themselves as policemen again came to her house and showed her a pistol and told her that one of the accused named Sunny is a Police Inspector and another accused Muzafer is his PSO and said that her husband shall be released only if she pays the remaining amount to them.

Later on inquiry, the lady came to know that both the persons were not employees of Police Department and just extorting money from her through fraud means and by disguising themselves as policemen on duty.

Acting over the complaint of the lady, a case FIR Number 212/2022 under Sections 170, 419, 384 and 109 IPC and 3/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.

To work out the case, a team from Police Station Bahu Fort led by SHO Inspector Nayat Ali under the supervision of SDPO East Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari did strenuous efforts and after connecting various leads finally arrested the two extortionists, who were identified as Japjap Singh alias Sunny, son of Daljeet Singh of Miran Sahib and Muzafer, son of Abdul Gani Wani of District Ramban, at present Gujjar Nagar District Jammu.

During search, Rs 47,000 cash and an air pistol were recovered. Moreover, the swift car they took from the victim was also recovered from their possession.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
