New Delhi, December 26, 2024: India mourns the loss of one of its most revered statesmen, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92. The former Prime Minister breathed his last at AIIMS, New Delhi, where he was admitted after a sudden deterioration in his health.

Dr. Singh served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s political and economic landscape. Known as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, his tenure as Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996 introduced transformative reforms that set India on a path of rapid growth and global integration.

Leaders across the political spectrum have expressed their grief and paid tribute to his legacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed him as a “distinguished leader and a visionary economist,” while the Congress Party called his demise an “irreparable loss to Indian politics and the nation at large.”

Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan), Dr. Singh was an economist of global repute, holding degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. His humility, integrity, and commitment to public service earned him admiration both at home and abroad.

Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and three daughters. As India bids farewell to a statesman who dedicated his life to the nation, his contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.

A state funeral is expected to take place tomorrow, with national flags flying at half-mast in his honor.
