The Delhi Police has taken action following the circulation of a manipulated video allegedly featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussing the abolition of reservation quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs. The video, which has sparked controversy and accusations of spreading misinformation, prompted the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to file a formal complaint seeking accountability. In light of concerns raised by the BJP regarding the video’s authenticity, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The BJP has refuted the video’s claims, arguing that it misrepresents Mr. Shah’s original statements made during a political rally, particularly concerning reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana. The controversy surrounding the video escalated as various social media platforms, including official Congress-affiliated accounts, shared the edited footage, alleging the BJP’s intentions to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas. BJP leaders have criticized these allegations, accusing the Congress of spreading false information that could potentially fuel social discord. The MHA, in its complaint, has provided a detailed report identifying the sources and channels responsible for disseminating the altered video of the Home Minister. With the FIR now filed, the Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit has initiated an investigation into the origins of the fabricated video.
